Abstract: Since 2004, we have been recording all lectures by camcorders and streaming them through the campus network at Tottori University of Environmental Studies. A unique aspect of our activity is that all videos are manually recorded by student staff without expensive auto-recording equipment. However, it needs a daily effort to arrange recording staff under sudden changes of schedules of lectures and students.   In this paper, we study a simplified lecture recording method that uses a fixed HDV (high-definition video) camera and a virtual camera work technique. First, we record the entire classroom with a fixed HDV camera. Then, regions of interest are determined by voting among key frames. Finally, a standard definition video that contains the regions is generated.Keyword(s): lecture recording, high definition video, virtual camera work.
