Join Opencast

There are several ways to join the Opencast community or the Matterhorn project efforts.

Opencast Community

The Opencast community is a collaboration of higher education institutions working together to explore, define, and document podcasting best practices and technologies. Through the community mailing list and Resource Exchange, the community offers guidance and information to help others choose the best approach for delivering rich media online.

There are several ways to join the Opencast community:

• Subscribe to the community mailing list! The list has been a valuable source of answers to questions related to academic podcasting.  There are over 600 subscribers to the listserv from institutions across the world, many of whom are experts in this area, and many who may have the same questions as you.
• Register on the Opencast website!  After becoming a member, submit your organization's profile in the directory of organizations.
• Support... the community by working together with other organizations. Use the mailing list to ask and answer questions and share your experiences.  

Matterhorn Project

A group of institutions from the Opencast community have come together and made a commitment around the Opencast Matterhorn project. Together, these partners are building an enterprise-level, easy-to-install open source podcast and rich media capture, processing and delivery system. This system has been named Opencast Matterhorn.

There are several ways to participate in the Matterhorn project:

• Discuss... join the Matterhorn mailing list
• Contribute... Documentation about Matterhorn will be maintained in the Matterhorn wiki and Jira issue tracker.  You are encouraged to review, critique and offer your suggestions about the project.
• Participate... in public meetings and other opportunities for the Opencast community to review the work that is being done and provide input into the process.  Participating in these meetings keeps you informed of the Opencast Matterhorn development process, and gives you the opportunity to influence its direction as you consider how it could meet the needs of your institution. 
• Advise... Matterhorn will enlist the support of stakeholders through the formation of advisory bodies (see Project Governance).  These bodies will provide guidance and input into the features, functions, and key technology outputs from the project. If you have an interest in serving on one of these advisory bodies, we would welcome your participation. Please let us know if you have an interest.
• Contribute.. you may decide to invest in Matterhorn and contribute toward the development effort.
