We developed a system called LODE to capture didactic events (typical capture of slide + video + audio). The system was used to capture a number of courses, international summer schools and other events. The LODE capturing software works on a Mac, it is freely downloadable from our site http://latemar.science.unitn.it/LODE, an produces Flash objects that can be viewed on any browser with a Flash plug in. Several examples of the objects produced with LODE are downloadable from its site. LODE was written in Java and uses Quicktime. The possibility of porting it on Windows is being explored. Linux sound more difficult because of the lack of Quicktime for Java on such platform. Additional features include an experimental porting of the resulting objects onto Symbian phones (audio and side only) and a prototype called Needle that uses speech recognition techniques to allow indexing the content of the lectures. We'd be happy to share our experience.
